Late last week, Peloton instructor Chase Tucker announced on Instagram that he was leaving Peloton to pursue other opportunities. Peloton has so far had a very strong retention of their coaches with less than a handful having left over the past several years. While we may never know why Chase left, a look into class ratings may be an indication.

Review: The Peloton Tread is a great addition for existing Peloton members

To be honest, I did not want to get the Peloton Tread. My initial plan was to wait for the more premium Peloton Tread+ to be released after it was recalled last year.

However, given Peloton’s current situation, it was made pretty clear to me that the Tread+ will likely not be released again anytime soon. So I gave in, and ordered the Peloton Tread instead.

I am glad I did.

Peloton now sells Apple Watch bands; is it cozying up to Apple under its new leadership?

As reported by our colleagues at Connect The Watts, Peloton yesterday started rolling out support for Apple Watch heart rate integration to its Bike and Tread products. In conjunction with this announcement, Peloton has also started selling Apple Watch bands featuring a prominent Peloton logo.

Could this be a sign that, despite being competitors in the subscription fitness industry, Peloton is looking to cozy up to Apple?

WSJ: Amazon mulling potential Peloton acquisition; ‘other suitors’ also in the running

Update: The Financial Times now reports that Nike has also discussed an acquisition of Peloton. The report also says: “Other buyers are also likely to emerge, said those briefed on the matter, potentially including Apple and large private equity buyers.”

Peloton’s struggles over the last several months have been well-documented, leading to speculation about a potential acquisition by a Big Tech company. While some investors have called on Peloton to consider a sale to Apple, a new report from The Wall Street Journal says that Amazon is expressing interest in a potential deal.

Comment: Is Peloton an acquisition target in 2022 by Apple, Amazon, Meta, etc?

In late 2019, Peloton aired a Holiday commercial that garnered media backlash. In early 2020, it became a media darling as the COVID–19 pandemic shut down gyms, and people were forced to work out at home for many months. On 12/21/20, Peloton’s stock peaked at $162.72. Today, it sits at $38.51. That puts it just above its $23.01 price around the time when the WHO declared a pandemic. That’s quite a rise and fall for a company with devoted subscribers and continue low churn. With a market cap of just 15 billion, it will be a prime acquisition target in 2022. Who will the buyer be? Let’s look at the options.

Well, Mr. Big is dead. Sorry, too late for spoiler alerts! And “I couldn’t help but wonder,” to quote the now-bereaved Carrie Bradshaw, is Peloton in on the game or not? Last night’s first episode of The Sex and the City reboot saw Big’s death while vigorously pedaling on a Peloton – the company is denying any involvement in the plot twist. The company stock did take a dip after the show aired, but this product placement, intentional or not, is likely a good thing for the brand.

Strava’s year-end data shows the hot new sport this year is walking

Strava just released its year-end review with heaps of interesting data on its 95 million subscribers around the world.
