When you are considering the differences between the original Peloton Bike vs the Peloton Bike+, there are a lot of things to consider besides the $600 price difference.

In fact, there are at least 16 differences between the original Peloton Bike and Bike+. Some of which are well known, but others which are not. And so we are going to go through the entire list so that you know everything you should to figure out which bike is best for you.

Today, Peloton released its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2021, including a 141% growth in sales. According to the report, more and more people are joining the Peloton community and are sticking with it longer than ever.

This afternoon, Peloton hosted its Q3 earnings call following the release of its shareholders report. While the letter to shareholders gave zero update to the current controversy surrounding the safety of the Tread and Tread+, Peloton CEO John Foley cleared the air immediately.

April gave Peloton a beating of a lifetime… with numerous new lawsuits to deal with, enormous widespread media coverage of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s decision to classify the Tread+ as unsafe for use and push for their eventual recall, Peloton’s stock continuing to drop, and the list goes on and on. 

Connect home fitness manufacturer Tempo has recently expanded its app to Android and the Google Play Store. Furthermore, the “My Plan” feature within the app now gives both Apple and Android users the ability to achieve their fitness goals, whether they’re at home with Tempo or out and about on the app.

A security researcher recently discovered that he could send unauthenticated requests to Peloton’s Application Programming Interface (API), exploiting a leak of private Peloton member data, including age, gender, and location.

Peloton CEO John Foley has said on multiple occasions that Peloton must win strength to win fitness. Outside of some overpriced dumbbells, Peloton has no hardware to pair with its excellent strength classes. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been using the LifePro Powerflow dumbbells with my Peloton strength classes.

In April, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning for people to stop using the Peloton Tread+. This came after the tragic death of a child caused by the Tread+. Now, the CPSC and Peloton have jointly announced a recall of all Tread treadmills.

May 4 was Star Wars Day for many people, but it’s my first anniversary of having my Peloton bike delivered. Although I’ve since moved on to a Bike+, I am firmly in the Peloton ecosystem, and it’s been a fantastic year.

Peloton CEO John Foley kicked off the company’s 2021 Homecoming celebration with a keynote presentation announcing some exciting new features and other news. This includes revamped programs, a Strive Score improved scenic rides, and the long-debated pause button.

Connected fitness rower startup Ergatta has announced an additional $30 million in Series A funding led by Advance Venture Partners and other industry leaders. Ergatta plans to use the additional funds to expand its content of game-based fitness, and further separate itself from a crowded market.

Peloton will be celebrating the heritage of Asian and Pacific Islander people throughout May with themed classes, music, and exclusive apparel. Furthermore, the company is making extended efforts to maintain a welcoming community for all people.

In an announcement on Instagram, Peloton instructor Ben Alldis revealed he will be joining the Power Zone Training crew as an additional member. Peloton made a similar announcement via Twitter.

Peloton has released the full class and content schedule for its latest Artist Series featuring Usher. This series will partially be a part of Peloton’s Homecoming weekend taking place April 30 to May 2 and will feature a panel with Usher and Peloton instructor Ally Love.

Peloton is having some major trouble this week, with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issuing a warning for those with the Peloton Tread+, asking those who have children or pets to stop using it and suggesting Peloton begin a recall of the product entirely. 

While this issue may or may not cause a long-term problem for Peloton, as the company is strongly fighting back on this, stating that “the Tread+ is safe for the home when used in accordance with warnings and safety instructions,” it is part of a larger issue and familiar pattern that I’ve noticed over the past year, which is that Peloton is terrible with community communication.

Back in January, I decided to upgrade to Peloton’s Bike+ and sell my Peloton Bike. Because of Peloton’s long delivery delay, the installation appointment was set for April 19. I had tried to get moved to an earlier appointment, but there was nothing available. I received the delivery window on Saturday, so I was very excited to have it delivered today.

With Peloton recently removing the ability of Apple Watch users to pair with the Peloton Bike+ for any classes besides cycling, I was on the hunt to discover whether there was any other way to synch my Apple Watch to Peloton.

Official statement from Peloton:

“Apple GymKit is designed to work with equipment-based cardio workouts. However, Peloton recently implemented GymKit with Bike Bootcamp, a multi-disciplinary class type that combines strength and cardio, which the feature does not support. Members can still use GymKit to sync their cycling-only workouts to their Apple Watch from the Bike+.”

One of the selling points of upgrading to the newer, upgraded, and more expensive Peloton Bike+ was the inclusion of the Apple Gym Kit, an Apple platform that makes it very easy to pair the bike with your Apple Watch to see your heart rate and have your workouts directly imported into Apple Fitness and Apple Health.
