Comment: Is Peloton an acquisition target in 2022 by Apple, Amazon, Meta, etc?

In late 2019, Peloton aired a Holiday commercial that garnered media backlash. In early 2020, it became a media darling as the COVID–19 pandemic shut down gyms, and people were forced to work out at home for many months. On 12/21/20, Peloton’s stock peaked at $162.72. Today, it sits at $38.51. That puts it just above its $23.01 price around the time when the WHO declared a pandemic. That’s quite a rise and fall for a company with devoted subscribers and continue low churn. With a market cap of just 15 billion, it will be a prime acquisition target in 2022. Who will the buyer be? Let’s look at the options.

Review: Bike+ offers a premium experience if Peloton is at the center of your fitness routine

Six weeks ago, I took delivery of a Peloton Bike+ after riding on an original Peloton Bike for the previous year. In my first impressions review, I came away impressed with the Bike+, but I had some terrible delivery issues relating to the assembly of my particular bike. Although it’s not Peloton’s fault I had an issue, it was their problem. The hardware problems are now resolved, and I’ve seen many hours logging miles on Bike+, so I have a more fully featured opinion on the product. Let’s dive in to see if Bike+ was worth the upgrade after six weeks of use.

Echelon riders’ account data exposed through a leaky API

Echelon

Echelon is facing the same problem Peloton recently had over rider data being exposed through its API, which wasn’t properly secured. Jan Masters, a security researcher at Pen Test Partners, discovered that Echelon’s API allowed access to the account data of its riders. The data exposed included name, city, age, sex, phone number, weight, birthday, and workout statistics, and history of any other member in a live or on-demand class. The API also included some information about Echelon customers’ workout equipment including serial numbers.

Peloton Bike+ upgrade first impressions: Great hardware, but a poor installation experience leaves me with a damaged bike

Back in January, I decided to upgrade to Peloton’s Bike+ and sell my Peloton Bike. Because of Peloton’s long delivery delay, the installation appointment was set for April 19. I had tried to get moved to an earlier appointment, but there was nothing available. I received the delivery window on Saturday, so I was very excited to have it delivered today.
