Workout without WiFi, now available on Peloton

Peloton has updated its Just Work Out feature, allowing members to exercise offline even when the app isn’t connected to the internet. Keep reading below to learn more.

Even though it’s not available for every class, Peloton has made an important update to its Just Work Out feature – the app’s ability to operate while completely offline without an internet connection, allowing members to exercise even when they don’t have access to WiFi or cellular.

If you don’t have an internet connection and you open the Peloton app, there is now a prompt that says:

No connection? No problem. You can still track an activity while offline. Workouts will sync to your profile when you’re back online.

Included in the prompt is “Track Activity,” which takes you to the Just Work Out feature. In the new update, members can now use Just Work Out regardless of whether or not they have a WiFi or cellular connection.

Once the workout is completed and the next time the device is connected to the internet, the workout will automatically sync to your Peloton profile.

Notably, it’s not clear how syncing data with this new update might affect members’ daily and weekly streaks (via Pelo Buddy):

For example, if you complete Just Work Out in offline mode at the end of one day, but the workout does not sync until the following day, it is unclear whether you would still receive the blue dot – signifying an active day with Peloton – on the day you actually completed the workout.

The ability to workout offline doesn’t apply to standard classes, which still require a “preload” feature in order to start the class – offline classes without needing a WiFi or cellular connection only applies to Just Work Out.

The new feature, Just Work Out, launched in 2022 and allows members to receive credit for workouts completed outside of a Peloton instructor-led class. There is also “Just with Goals,” which provides members with the opportunity to add a specific goal to work towards, such as a specific time, distance, or output within their workouts.
