Enhanced connectivity: Peloton app embraces 3rd party rowers

In a new feature now rolling out, the Peloton app is able to pair with third-party connected rowing machines via Blueetooth FTMS. Head below to learn more.

The newest software update for the Peloton app allows third-party (non-Peloton) rowing machines to connect with the app and display statistics. “The applicable support page – which previously only included the Tread – has been updated to include rowing devices,” via Pelo Buddy.

The description, now updated, reads:

We’re excited to announce that Peloton App+ and All-Access Membership Members can pair the Peloton App to any third-party treadmill or rower with Bluetooth® FTMS support and view their metrics from the treadmill/rower on their app when taking any Peloton running, walking, or Tread Bootcamp class or any Peloton rowing or Row Bootcamp class.

When the Peloton app is connected to a third-party rowing machine, members will see certain metrics displayed in real-time during their workout, including stroke rate and pace. Peloton members will also be able to access a summary at the end of a workout that will highlight their total output, strokes, calories, distance, average stroke rate, average stroke output, and average pace.

Additionally, according to Pelo Buddy, members are now able to pair certain models of Concept2 rowing machines with the Peloton app using the new feature, which is only available for those who subscribe to Peloton’s App+ tier, the company’s most premium digital subscription offering.

To pair the Peloton app with a third-party rower, following the steps outlined below:

  1. Open the Peloton app, begin a Rowing class
  2. Select “Connect a Bluetooth Device” option
  3. Select the rowing maching from the device list

If you need pairing assistance with the Peloton app and third-party hardware, make sure you visit the Peloton website for support.
