Lululemon designed a first-of-its-kind ultramarathon – FURTHER – to be completed by 10 of its female Global Ambassadors. The ultramarathon kicked off on March 6 in La Quinta, California, and will last a total of six days – one of the Global Ambassadors, Camille Herron, is breaking records along the way. Head below to learn more.
We reported last week that lululemon’s ultramarathon, FURTHER, had begun in La Quinta, California. The idea behind FURTHER is to determine “how far women can go when they’re supported with resources and product innovations typically reserved for men.”
Designed for female athletes not only to compete and be provided with a chance to break records (their own, national, and world records), but FURTHER was also created to also provide an opportunity for researchers to gather data on female performance:
The ongoing research will dive deep into topical questions such as whether female ultrarunners have superior fatigue resistance compared to males and will study areas that haven’t been explored, such as the lived experiences of women ultrarunners and the physiological and biomechanical effects of six days of running.
The data-gathering results will be released in the fall of this year, and the takeaways from the data will “serve as a catalyst for additional research on female and women athletes and inform lululemon’s pipeline of women-first innovations.”
Now, with only one day left in the FURTHER ultramarathon, one of lululemon’s 10 Global Ambassadors, Camille Herron, continues to collect and beat records. At 42 years old, Herron holds several national and world records, but since the launch of FURTHER, she now adds more under her belt, including:
- 48-hour American open road record – 247.73 miles
- Women’s World 300 miles record – 2 days, 11 hours, 54 minutes, and 28 seconds
- Women’s World 500k record – 2 days, 14 hours, and 45 seconds.
- Women’s World 600k record – 3 days, 9 hours, and 23 minutes
