Peloton releases class in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilites

Peloton yesterday announced that they would be releasing a new class in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a special 20-minute ride, which is now available on-demand. Head below for more details.

Background

Since 1992, The International Day of Persons with Disabilites has been globally recognized by the United Nations on December 3 in an effort to raise awareness and promote understanding of people with disabilities. According to the United Nations:

The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

When we secure the rights of persons with disabilities, we move our world closer to upholding the core values and principles of the United Nations Charter. The United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy provides the foundation for sustainable and transformative progress on disability inclusion through all pillars of the work of the United Nations: peace and security, human rights, and development.

The United Nations continues to seek “committment, solidarity, and funding” to secure sustainable development for everyone, no matter their physical or mental ability.

Peloton’s accessibility

Accessibility within the fitness space is critical so that everyone can have access to exercise, and for many of us, a brand’s accessibility and inclusive choices as they relate to accessibility are far from the first thing on our minds. Peloton, however, is committed to accessibility within their bikes, treads, and rower, as demonstrated by the inclusion of TalkBack, magnfication, the ability to choose font sizes on your hardware’s screen, captions, and subtitles for “the majority” of their on-demand classes.

In honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Peloton instructor, Bradley Rose, now has a 20-minute ride available on-demand for members. Bradley himself suffered from a stroke and during the ride, shares his experience and also which signs to look for in case someome might be having a stroke.

Additionally, as noted on the Peloton Studios Instagram, Peloton has also today debuted a strength-training class with adaptive athlete, Tom Miazga.
