Peloton has announced a recall of over 2 million bikes due to a potential safety risk involving the adjustable seat. This is the third – and largest – recall for the Peloton within the last few years.
Peloton, along with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), initiated the recall on Thursday morning. Peloton bike owners with model number PL-01 (i.e., the “Original Peloton Bike”) are advised to cease using their bicycles immediately. Evidently, the adjustable seat has a potential defect, which may cause it to break during use and result in injuries to the rider.
To address the issue, affected customers can contact Peloton here to receive a complimentary repair kit that they can install themselves.
According to the press release, “Peloton has received 35 reports of the seat post breaking and detaching from the bike during use, including 13 reports of injuries including a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises due to falling from the bike.”
Two years ago in May 2021, Peloton announced two voluntary recalls for more than 125,000 of its treadmills after one child died and more than 70 incidents were reported.
Peloton has not announced whether owners of the Peloton Bike will receive compensation for membership fees paid while they wait for the repair.
