The Rogue Echo Rower – everything you need to know!

Ever since the Rogue Echo Rower was announced, it has brought both a lot of interest and a lot of questions. How does it compare to the Concept 2 RowErg? How does it feel to use? Does it work with apps like Peloton?

In this article, we will cover and answer everything you need to know about the Rogue Echo Rower.

A quick overview of the Rogue Echo Rower

The Rogue Echo Rower looks like a beefed-up version of the Concept 2, and it pretty much is. Rogue even states that a fundamental design principle was to ensure it could be used fairly in competition with those using a Concept 2.

With oversized turf tires, quick release foot straps, the ability to easily fold for storage, and all at a price point lower than the Concept 2, the Rogue Echo just may become the new gold standard for competitive rowers.

Rogue Echo Rower: Design features

Precision calibrated flywheel

Similar to the Concept 2, the flywheel on the Rogue Echo Rower provides a smooth and consistent rowing experience. The damper can be adjusted from one-to-ten via a lever on the flywheel, which adjusts how much air is drawn into the cage for each pull.

Rogue also says they worked closely with third-party engineering firm, S-E-A, to verify all data outputs would allow this machine to be used in competition alongside the Concept 2. Which means the two machines should feel very similar, if not identical.

Easy fold for storage

The Rogue Echo Rower is able to quickly fold in half, making it easy and safe to store away when not in use. This is a big improvement over the Concept 2, which can unsafe to store upright at home, and otherwise has to be broken down into two separate pieces.

Oversized Turf Tires

Another big improvement here is with the included turf tires, which makes the Echo Rower easier to move around. Anyone who has ever moved a concept 2 around knows the “wiggle” often required to get its small wheels up over even a 3/4 inch mat. That will not be an issue here.

Quick release foot straps

Rogue has a new patent pending quick release foot. strap design that allows users to quickly set and release the foot straps. This is especially beneficial to CrossFit athletes who have to frequently get in and out of the rower during a workout, with ideally minimal transition time.

LCD console

The Rogue Echo Rower features a 4.7” backlit LCD console to display users’s performance metrics. Features here include:

  • 4.7” Backlit LCD Console Display Screen
  • Choose from pre-programmed workouts or set a custom workout
  • Bluetooth / ANT+ Compatible
  • Integrated smartphone holder holds devices with up to a 3.45” width
  • Memory feature keeps a log of all previous workouts
  • Self Generating Power with D-Cell Battery Backup
  • Working Temperature Range: -4°F – 140°F
  • OTA Software Update Ready
  • Compatible with 3rd party apps, to include: ErgZone, Regatta, Peloton and other FTMS compatible apps

Rogue Echo Rower vs Concept 2

The biggest question most will have is how the Rogue Echo Rower compares to the Concept 2. Giving how much Rogue focused on ensuring its rower can work in competitions alongside Concept 2, they both likely feel identical.

The main difference is that the Rogue Echo Rower comes with additional features and improvements like the ability to fold up for storage, oversized turf tires, and quick release foot straps.

Despite having more features, the Rogue Echo Rower is also a bit lower in cost. Currently priced at $895 (with free shipping) compared to the Concept 2 which is $990.
