Withings debuts BeamO, a first-of-its-kind home health check-up device

Withings announced yesterday at CES 2024 its newest health device, BeamO, a 4-in-1 health checkup device. Once it clears the FDA, it will be available in the United States. Head below for more details.

Disrupting your health data

Called a “disruptive 4-in-1 health checkup device,” Withings – a leader in connected health – debuted BeamO, an advanced multiscope that allows you to measure your core vitals in the same way they get measured when you visit your doctor.

Combining ECG, oximeter, stethoscope, and thermometer sensors, BeamO is a seemingly powerful tool that helps to monitor your lung and heart health. The device is designed to help people and families perform their own health checkups which, in turn, would improve telehealth visits because there would be more data to share with the doctor via BeamO’s measurements.

Eric Carreel, founder and president of Withings:

BeamO will revolutionize the measurement of the core vitals carried outduring medical visits from the comfort of one’s own home. This crucial data will provide a vital overview of overallhealth or warning signs of potential areas of concern. Instead of measuring these stats a couple of times a year in a clinical setting, it will be possible to assess them every day. BeamO will be the thermometer of the future, providing the ability to assesstemperature and observe the state of the heart and lungs.

What, exactly, does BeamO do?

Using the sensors built within, BeamO can perform blood oxygenation and heart rate readings, can conduct a medical-grade 1-lead ECG, it can provide accurate core body temperature readings, and it can capture chest or back acoustic sound waves. Combined, that makes four features BeamO can provide consumers with very specific health data they can share with their physician.

Additionally, BeamO can detect possible fever and infection and can recognize possible cardiovascular issues, as well. BeamO syncs through the Withings app, creating comprehensive health records to be stored over time.

BeamO will be available in June 2024 for $249.50, as soon as BeamO gets its FDA clearance.

Connect the Watts’ Take

This seems like a pretty cool device to have around the house, especially in the era of the flu, COVID-19, and other transmissible viruses. Withings makes the point in the press release that telehealth has soared since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, and as someone who has had a handful of telehealth appointments, I can say for sure that I wish I had more data to provide the doctor other than “my throat hurts and my fever won’t subside.” BeamO would, in theory, help to bridge the gap between anecdotes and health data.
