Today, Eight Sleep introduced the new Pod 4 Ultra, its most powerful and high tech sleep system yet. With additional cooling power, adjustable body positioning, snore detection, and tap control, this looks to be one of the largest improvements Eight Sleep has made since its initial release.
Read below to get the full scoop on everything new with the Eight Sleep Pod 4 Ultra.
The Eight Sleep Pod 4 Ultra includes the following new features:
- Increased cooling power (twice the power of the Pod 3)
- Adjustable body positioning
- Snore dectection
- A new way to control Pod 4 without a phone
- Quieter hub (40% less noise than the Pod 3)
- Softer materials and a slimmer profile (20% thinner than the Pod 3)
Increased cooling power
The Eight Sleep Pod 4 has a new thermal engine which delivers twice the previous cooling power. This allows the Pod 4 to reach as low as 55°F, even during a heat wave.
As someone who does not have air conditioning, this is a big improvement. While the my Pod 3 can usually reach 55°F, it definitely can struggle during some of the hotter summer months.
Adjustable body positioning
The Eight Sleep Pod 4 Ultra comes with a base you can place underneath your mattress that can both manually and automatically adjust your body positioning.
The base can be adjusted to elevate your head by up to 30-degrees, allowing for a comfortable reading position without the need for stacking additional pillows. The feet can also be elevated as well, allowing the Pod 4 to more evenly distribute pressure across the body.
Snore detection and reduction
Another new feature here is the brand new snore detection. Not only is this a valuable metric that can be tracked through the Eight Sleep app, but the Pod 4 Ultra also helps reduce snoring through its adjustable body positioning.
If Eight Sleep detects you are snoring, it can be set to automatically raise your head while you sleep. This elevation has been clinically shown to decrease snoring by up to 45%.
A new way to control Pod 4 without a phone
The Pod 4 Ultra can now also be adjusted without a phone in form of Tap-to-control. Users can now tap a sensor each side of the bed to control different features:
- 2 taps to cool down
- 3 taps to heat up
- 4 taps to raise to Reading position or back to Sleeping position
- During an alarm, 2 taps to snooze or dismiss
Quieter hub and slimmer profile
Despite the improved cooling power, the Pod 4 is now both 40% quieter and 20% slimmer than the previous Pod 3.
Personally, I never thought the noise from the Pod 3 was much of an issue, but I am happy to see them decrease the sound for the lighter sleepers out there. Eight Sleep says the Pod 4 stays at around 30 decibels, which is comparable to most air purifiers.
The new cover, which fits onto any mattress like a fitted sheet, has also been redesigned using softer materials. It now has a 20% slimmer profile, and Eight Sleep says it is significantly more adaptable to the body than any previous iterations.
Connect The Watts’ Take
Eight Sleep is easily one of (if not the) most enjoyable piece of tech I have in my house. While I have to agree the price is a bit high, the improvement in sleep quality and comfort is significant.
One of its most valuable features for us, is its ability to adjust the temperature separately on each side of the bed. My wife (and most women in general) prefers a much warmer temperature than I do. In fact, it is not rare for our sides of the bed to differ in temperature by over 20 degrees!
Personally, I am most excited here about the new adjustable body positioning. I like to read in bed, and I (supposedly) sometimes snore. So to have Eight Sleep not only track that, but help to decrease it seems like a huge bonus on top of everything else it offers.
We will have a full in-depth review in a month or two for the Pod 4 Ultra, so make sure to check back in with us here at Connect The Watts.
