America’s most popular sport just got a new training device: Meet Bzer, the first mini pickleball

Ed Beazer, who picked up pickleball four years ago along with millions of other Americans, has created the sport’s first mini pickleball to help people improve their overall pickleball game. Keep reading below for more details.

Ez Beazer lives in Utah, a state that is highly ranked when it comes to pickleball popularity. Since he started playing pickleball four years ago, Beazer has wanted to improve his game and his skill set, which led him to work with a coach – professional pickleball player, Jake Ralphs.

It was one in one of their coaching sessions when Ralphs brought a smaller pickleball to work rather with than the traditionally sized, 3-inch diameter pickleball that Beazer and other players are used to working with. The two trained using the smaller pickleball, and Beazer noted that when they went back to using a regulation-sized pickleball, “it was like hitting a beach ball.” (Via KSL).

It was here that the idea for creating a mini pickleball was born, and Beazer was just the man to do it – he is a businessman who had helped bring Starbucks to Utah. After an initial search online to see if a pickleball like the one Beazer and Ralphs wanted to create existed, they found that it did not.

Subsequently, after more than a year of development, Beazer and Ralphs cofounded Bzer Sports and have launched their first product, the “Warm-up Ball,” which is 1.75 inches in diameter. Beazer:

This is the first mini pickleball in the pickleball industry and we developed it right here in Utah. We’re one of the top states for pickleball, so we thought if we could get this developed and introduced in the Utah market, and help the people of Utah get better, that’s what we wanted to do.

The ball itself went through several different prototypes before Bzer Sports settled on the final product – a mini pickleball made out of rubber instead of standard plastic, adding weight that is meant to help with follow-through form. Beazer has aspirations for Bzer Sports, and hopes to continue to specialize in training equipment for pickleball players:

There’s going to be more to come. We want Bzer Sports to specialize in training devices for pickleball players to improve their game. We’re hoping that just becomes our niche in the industry
