This moody home gym has a ton of equipment, but lacks personality

At Connect the Watts, we love looking at home gyms and seeing what types of equipment and design choices people make to optimize their space – it offers us a glimpse into the lives of other fitness-minded people. Today’s at-home gym setup offers plenty of five-star equipment, including a Peloton Bike and an Assault Fitness AssaultBike, but with the exception of the dumbbells, there is no color to be seen anywhere. Head below to learn more.

Check out this home gym setup, brought to us by Chelsey Freng:

Favorite features

As she mentioned in her caption, this is a really small space, coming in at 12×14 feet – taking this into consideration, it’s really impressive what she has done with what used to be a storage space in her home.

I love that there are multiple mirrors she has set up because without a workout buddy or at least one mirror, anyone exercising is putting themselves at risk for injury – and Chelsey has three. There is also some killer equipment here including a Peloton Bike, an AssaultBike, dumbbells, a cage setup, and some excellent organizational choices that help to hang plates, jump ropes, resistance bands, and more, not to mention the Marshall speaker propped next to the mirror.

The light wood floor with the Iron Ore paint job definitely creates a stark contrast and a certain mood within this home gym, but it’s not one that to me, screams “motivation.”

Suggestions for improvement

Anything to add a pop of color would be excellent in this space. Buying a couple of easy-to-care-for house plants is an obvious choice, but even replacing the black yoga mats with ones that are more colorful would add more personality to this home gym. Right now, it’s giving dark and stormy; this was obviously a choice by the designer, but adding in a fresh piece of artwork or a snakeplant would give this room a lot of life.

Cost breakdown

  • Horizon Treadmill – $1,585
  • Peloton Bike – $1,445
  • AssaultBike – $700
  • Marshall Kilburn II Portable Speaker – $264
  • Major Fitness Power Cage – $250
  • ToughFit Medicine Balls – $225
  • Home Gym Mirror – $160
  • HolaHotha Dumbbell Set with Rack – $155
  • BowFlex 840 Kettlebell – $130

Total cost: $4,284

Connect the Watts’ Take

The design of this home gym remains impressive, given that it’s only 12 by 14 feet. I love the variety of equipment from the Peloton Bike to the jump ropes, and if they threw a couple of easy plants to add some color, this at-home gym would feel much more lively.
