The five essential items needed for your home gym

Whether you’re designing your first home gym or you just want a few pieces of equipment so you can exercise in your living room, you don’t need a huge variety in order to accomplish a challenging full-body workout. Head below for our five essential items needed for your home gym.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells

There are so many exercises you can accomplish with dumbbells, and what’s special about the Bowflex SelectT4ect 552 Dumbbells is that they are adjustable. Each weight ranges from 5 to 52.5 pounds per dumbbell, allowing users to push themselves to failure at every stage. Get them from Amazon for $429.

Resistance bands

There are a million resistance bands to choose from, and some types of resistance bands absolutely serve different purposes. There are thicker, fabric-based bands that are better for above-the-knee resistance exercises, and there are rubber resistance bands that work well for bridges, squat walks, and more. This set of five resistance bands is colorful, ranges from extra light to extra heavy, and can easily be stashed in its carrying bag. Available for $10 from Amazon.

Bosu Ball

My personal favorite piece of gym equipment is the Bosu Ball, available on Amazon for $100; any exercise you can do on the floor, you can transfer to a Bosu Ball for an additional core workout. For example, instead of simply standing up and doing front-to-lateral raises, step up on a Bosu Ball for a much harder challenge.

Jump rope

Jumping rope is one of the best ways to get your heart rate up and it’s such a small piece of equipment that it hardly qualifies as such. Jump ropes are having a bit of a moment on social media right now, with fitness influencers highlighting how they can jump rope to the beat of your favorite song, no matter how fast or how slow. Get your jump rope here for $9.

TRX GO Suspension Training System

Most gyms have a TRX setup, and now you can have one of your very own in your home. With TRX, you can weight train, build resistance, increase endurance, and more. It’s not my favorite thing to do at my gym, but that’s simply because it can be very challenging. Available on Amazon for $140.
