Eight Sleep to launch new health coaching service with acquisition of fitness app Span Health

Smart mattress company Eight Sleep is planning to launch a new health coaching service after acquiring the app Span Health. Span connects users to a performance coach who can make training and diet recommendations. The recommendations are based on data tracked from various fitness and health trackers, including the Eight Sleep smart mattress.

Span’s CEO and cofounder Patrick Samy and Chief Medical Officer Adam Bataineh have joined Eight Sleep’s product division. Samy said in a statement:

“Eight Sleep has changed the sleep experience forever, redefining its position as the most important pillar of health by utilizing data and technology to make sleep more optimal, efficient and personalized. We’re excited to combine our learnings from Span with the strong reach of the Eight Sleep brand to help their members and anyone seeking higher performance further optimize their health.”

If you are a Span subscriber, your subscription will be discontinued after March 31. Afterwards, you will still have access to the app for another 30 days until your data is deleted. Make sure to visit this page on Eight Sleep to signup for notifications for when the coaching services are live.

Eight Sleep, looking beyond sleep data, views the acquisition as a chance to launch complete health-coaching services and programs. Matteo Franceschetti, cofounder and CEO of Eight Sleep, said in a statement:

“Eight Sleep’s mission is to fuel human potential through optimal sleep. As we continue to build solutions to help our members sleep better, the acquisition of Span will enable us to offer additional tools for our users as they seek to improve every aspect of their health and performance through personalized services that match their needs.”
