It has been over two years since the recall of the Peloton Tread+, but a fix is finally here! On Thursday May 18, Peloton announced that a new Tread+ Rear Safety Guard has been approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
In an email to members, Peloton revealed the good news stating that the fix will be available to owners of the Peloton Tread+ later this year. Members can register here to have the new Rear Safety Guard installed for free when it is available.
Peloton wrote,
The guard marks an industry-leading safety design for slat belt treadmills. The innovative guard features a breakaway design that pivots away from the treadmill when it comes into contact with an object, shutting off power and decelerating the belt.
Peloton did not mention exactly when the release for the fix would be available. However, in another press release, the CPSC mentions that consumers with the Peloton Tread+ may register in advance for a delivery this fall.
Those with the Peloton Tread+ are still eligible until November 2023 to return it for a full refund.

Given new patents Peloton had made for this new Rear Safety Guard, we were pretty confident a fix would be available this year. What we did not know was that the fix could be retrofitted onto the Peloton Tread+ for those who still have it. That is great news for Peloton owners.
For those who are exited about being able to order a new Peloton Tread+, I have a feeling you’ll still need to wait for quite a while. With Tread+ owners still eligible for a refund until November, I think Peloton will wait to put it back on sale until after that date has passed.
