Eight Sleep launches Pod Pillow Cover: active cooling for your head

Eight Sleep, best known for its high-tech temperature-regulating mattresses, has released a new product that takes its signature cooling technology to the pillow. The new Pod Pillow Cover adds active temperature control to the one area that has always been left out of the company’s sleep system: your head.

The concept is simple. Instead of creating an entirely new pillow, Eight Sleep designed a cover that slides over the pillow you already use. Inside are ultra-thin channels that circulate water to keep the surface either cool or warm throughout the night.

The Pod Pillow Cover connects to Eight Sleep’s Hub, the same system that powers its Pod mattress cover. The Hub moves water through the pillow cover at controlled temperatures ranging from 55 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. It can stay up to 25 degrees cooler than a standard pillow, even after several hours of use.

Owners of the full Pod system will get an added benefit. The pillow cover can sync with the mattress cover’s sensors, which track sleep stages, heart rate, and temperature trends. Using that data, the system can automatically adjust the pillow temperature during the night to keep your body in its optimal sleep range.

Each Hub can power up to two pillow covers. Both sides are individually controlled, so couples can choose completely different settings. A small physical button on the cover lets you adjust temperature without opening the app.

Cost and availability

The Pod Pillow Cover is available now through Eight Sleep’s website and select partners. It costs $1,049 for a single and $1,649 for a pair. The company offers a 30-night trial, free shipping, and free returns in supported markets.

At launch, it is available in most major markets including the United States, Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, Mexico, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. It fits both standard and king-sized pillows.

The cover itself cannot run independently. You need a compatible Eight Sleep Hub, which means it is best suited for existing Pod owners or those ready to buy into the full system.

What stands out

This is one of the most interesting accessories Eight Sleep has introduced since the original Pod. It takes the brand’s smart temperature control and applies it where most heat buildup starts. Many sleepers end up flipping their pillow throughout the night trying to find a cool side. This aims to eliminate that problem entirely.

Because it works as a cover, it also avoids changing the feel of your favorite pillow. You keep the same softness and shape, but with the added comfort of precise temperature control. The independent head-zone regulation is also a strong addition for couples with very different sleep preferences.

Things to consider

The Pod Pillow Cover is not cheap. At over a thousand dollars, it is far more expensive than any traditional cooling pillow or pad on the market. It also requires the Hub to function, so if you are not already in the Eight Sleep ecosystem, the total cost could easily double.

There is also the question of long-term durability. Water-based cooling systems rely on pumps, tubing, and seals that can wear over time. While Eight Sleep has a solid track record, this will be worth watching after a year or two of nightly use.

And although the company says the pillow cover is quiet, some light sleepers may still notice faint sounds or vibrations from the moving water. The real test will be how seamlessly it blends into the sleep experience.

My take

The Pod Pillow Cover is the kind of innovation that makes Eight Sleep interesting. Instead of chasing flashy new product categories, they are refining and expanding the way their existing system enhances recovery and comfort. For people who already own the Pod, it looks like a natural and thoughtful upgrade.

For everyone else, it is a luxury accessory with a steep entry point but a clear promise: consistent comfort and temperature control from head to toe. If you are serious about optimizing sleep and already believe in Eight Sleep’s tech, this could be the finishing touch that completes the system.
