Oura Ring 4: Slimmer sensors, sharper accuracy

ŌURA has unveiled the Oura Ring 4, the latest upgrade in its line of smart rings, featuring the new Smart Sensing platform for enhanced accuracy and comfort. The ring is designed to adapt to the user’s finger, providing continuous health data through a sleeker, all-titanium design. The improved sensors now sit flush inside the ring, making it more comfortable for long-term wear without compromising on data collection.

Available for pre-order now, Oura Ring 4 comes in twelve sizes and six finishes, including a new glossy Black with a tungsten PVD coating for added durability. The ring starts at $349, with shipping set to begin on October 15, 2024. A one-month membership to the Oura platform is included, with ongoing membership priced at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

The standout feature of Oura Ring 4 is its Smart Sensing technology, which Oura says significantly enhances accuracy by more than doubling the number of signal pathways from eight to 18. This improvement can lead to more precise data collection, particularly for sleep, heart rate, and blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring.

The Smart Sensing platform also ensures more reliable readings across different skin tones and finger anatomies, adapting dynamically to ring movement during daily activities. Additionally, Oura Ring 4 delivers up to eight days of battery life on a single charge, making it more convenient for continuous wear.

ŌURA has now redesigned its Oura App to give users a clearer, more streamlined view of their health data. The app, available on both iOS and Android, now organizes insights into three key areas: Today, Vitals, and My Health. These sections allow users to track both short-term behaviors and long-term trends, providing a comprehensive overview of their well-being. The updated app also features Automatic Activity Detection (AAD) across 40+ activities, as well as advanced stress-tracking to help users manage both mental and physical health.

Oura Ring 4 battery life has been extended to 8 days

For women, Oura’s expanded reproductive health features include the Fertile Window tracker, which offers a detailed look at the most fertile days of the menstrual cycle. This feature is part of ŌURA’s broader commitment to personalized health insights, adding to existing offerings like Pregnancy and Cycle Insights.

The Oura Ring 4 also brings improvements in signal quality for key health metrics. The ring’s blood oxygen sensing (SpO2) is 120% more accurate than the previous generation, and it offers a 31% reduction in nighttime heart rate gaps, along with a 15% more accurate Breathing Disturbance Index (BDI). These enhancements ensure that users get clearer insights into their health, especially during sleep.

Overall, the Oura Ring 4 looks to be a strong improvement over its predecessor with improved accuracy, increased battery life, and a more comfortable fit.
