United Health members offered free year of Peloton membership

Beginning September 1, eligible United Healthcare members will be offered a free year of membership with the Peloton digital app. Optionally, members can choose to receive a four-month waiver toward an all-access membership.

Depending on which health plans allow for the free Peloton membership, this could mean that up to 6 million United Health members will be eligible for the offer. Considering the Peloton digital membership is primarily used as a method to gain more exposure, this seems like a big win for Peloton.

In the press release, Philip Kaufman, the senior vice president of UnitedHealthcare, said:

Many Americans are turning to on-demand exercise options to help improve their fitness and bolster their overall well-being, and this first-of-its-kind relationship with Peloton will provide millions of our members with an important resource to help them along their journey toward a healthier lifestyle.

Expanding access to Peloton’s industry-leading health and wellness community builds upon our commitment to developing digital health resources and consumer-centric benefits to help people live healthier lives.

William Lynch, president at Peloton, also said:

Peloton Members have always shared how much movement and activity positively impacts their mental, physical and emotional health. With UnitedHealthcare, we can now reach millions more around the country in our continuing efforts to help people be the best versions of themselves. This is our latest step to live up to our mission of making movement and fitness more accessible and available.”

If you are a United Health member, be on the lookout for details to activate your Peloton membership via email starting September 1 (depending on your health plan’s effective date).
